I love to cook but hate following recipes. I will use a recipe for the ingredient list and maybe part of a technique but I ineveitably will take the recipe and put my own stamp on it. Turns out I sew the same way, which doesn't work as well. I want to make art purses using my photos. I made a pattern and had a rough idea on the construction but needed a guiding hand so I bought a pattern from here, it's a great pattern and I will make it one day but it is written for quilter's and my mind isn't wired that way (yet) So then I remembered I had Megan Noel's zine, number 8 and it has great directions for building a small art purse. So with her directions, my pattern and photo I made a purse! It's the perfect size for a small wallet, lip gloss and my camera. I shall wear it to the gallery show on Thursday.
It's a little rough but I know know how to make the pattern work better. I had a great design opportunity(positive spin on F*** up). I tried to sew a gusset seam in the top flap but it ended up not lining up properly so I added more rows of stitches and it works, I actually like it better. I added a crude inside pocket as well and stitched another photo transfer to it. I have a new sewing machine that does blanket stitch, it's so COOL!!!!!
